Transfiguration

(Chris Brooks)

A groove song that started with some experiments in chord voicing with the 9th at the bottom of each chord, then jamming a melody over the top.  I was quite inspired by the interplay between David Paich and Steve Lukather when I wrote this so you'll hear the "luke" moments later on when the song cranks up a few notches! The Axis of All Things

(Chris Brooks)

Aside from the Prelude, this was written to be a first song.  I usually have an idea of where a song should sit on an album from the first 16 or 32 bars and it really helps me write in that context once I get that vibe.  It was the 2nd song written for the album and I feel it blends some of my musical past with where I've been heading. Not the Day, Nor the Hour

(Chris Brooks)

Sometimes just playing around with a new shape can open up the door to a whole new song, and that's exactly what happened here.  I saw Scott Henderson do this minor 9 arpeggio that I'd never used before, and once I applied a sequence to it and moved it around - hey presto: new song theme!  Fans of the odd-time stuff on my first album might love the alternating (yet tasteful I hope!) time signatures. Feeding the Myth

(Chris Brooks ft. Rick Graham)

I was not only blessed to have the amazing Brett Garsed trade solos with me on the track "In and Out of Dreams", but on this one I was lucky to have my friend and esteemed peer Rick Graham (http://rick-graham.co.uk) to dual with.  The title refers to fighting self-doubt and realising that your inner voice is leading you down the wrong path when it has you believing that something can't be done.  Taken from the new album "The Axis of All Things" available in our web store or iTunes.
